Autonomous Port of Pointe-Noire

The first stone of the Autonomous Port of Pointe Noire (PAPN) was laid in July 11, 1934, following the official opening of the Congo Ocean Railway. It is the only seaport of Congo with 126 acres of landscaped medians. 66 hectares are dedicated to the commercial port and the other 60 hectares covering the industrial area.

Rightly called "ocean port" of Central Africa, the Autonomous Port of Pointe-Noire plays an important role in commercial service in the sub-region because it is the natural outlet to the Atlantic Ocean. Thus, it is considered as one of the most important deep-water ports in the Gulf of Guinea.

The harbor basin has an area of ​​84 hectares opening on the high seas by a long 180 meters wide entrance through an access channel long 1200 meters.

The entrance and exit of ships in the PAPN are made through a basin and in the best conditions. Moreover, it has the capacity to accommodate ships 24/24 without interruption. In commercial operations it can receive up to 13 ships to the public port, 3 size vessels ≤ 130 meters to the oil logistics base, 3 vessels Ndjeno, Nkossa and Yombo (petroleum site).

The Autonomous Port of Pointe-Noire houses within many industrial and economic activities, like Congo Terminal container yard.
Dredging started by the PAPN will forward its waters 15 meters deep.

The reception facilities ships
The PAPN hosts simultaneously commercial ships and oil tankers. To optimize these activities, it has many dockings works such as the commercial port of an estimated processing capacity to 6 million tons per year, for example.

The reception infrastructure goods
The total area of the port area is 100 hectares distributed as follows:


- Shops and warehouses Port offer covered surfaces greater than 15 ha
- The landscaped medians represent a total area of 126 ha
- Containers occupy an area of 11.7 ha
- The timber parks cover 7.9 ha
- 500 ha reserved for extensions and the industrial port area


For storage and warehousing, three zones are divided space of PAPN:


• the area reserved for bonded goods (11 days stay for the frank national transit and 30 days for international transit);
• the storage area (no time limit);
• the area reserved for the petroleum, industrial and port extensions.


It also includes specialized equipment such as:                                                                                                        - A cement silo;

- A wine cellar;
- Storage tanks and oil derivatives;
- Storage tanks of vegetable oil;

Thanks to its strategic location an important activity takes place in the port of Pointe-Noire through various services:

piloting
The port authority has two stars of control it provides 24/24. It is mandatory for each vessel with a gross tonnage greater than or equal to 100 tons.

towing
It is ensured by two high seas 24/24 also tugs. Its use is mandatory for any vessel of overall greater than 130 meters. When the vessel has an overall length greater than 160 meters, it offers two tugs.

 


Services mooring
The PAPN has three shuttles mooring used for salvage operations to docking, undocking of ships on arrival, departure also of their movement (Berth change) inside the ports.


The dry commissioning of ships and fight against fire
The authority also has a slipway of 700 tons for dry commissioning of vessels and a fire vehicle.

The shipyard and stevedoring and handling activities
The shipyard and stevedoring and handling activities are performed by private partners. These activities are carried out thanks to the existence in the PAPN a large fleet of vehicles and appropriate equipment.


The supply ships
The PAPN ensures supply ships by providing dock or off fresh water through tugs. The ships are also bunkered in oil by pipelines or tankers. A chandlery company based in the port also allows to provide ships of various commodities and products.
